Chris Columbus, who directed the Christmas classics Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has some choice words for where Disney can leave the change, you filthy animal. The Home Alone director is not happy about the Home Alone reboot in the works at Disney+, which is set to star Jojo Rabbit scene-stealer Archie Yates and be directed by Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa). And while he didn't go as far as to call the House of Mouse a filthy animal, the sentiment is the same.
The Home Alone franchise has displayed enduring popularity for decades now, regularly appearing on audience lists of favorite Christmas movies. A reboot of the series has been in development for some time. SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, who will be appearing in the Home Alone reboot, recently confirmed during an interview that the film is close to finishing.

The Home Alone films started in 1990 with the first and arguably most popular entry in the series, starring child star Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern, and directed by Chris Columbus. The movie followed the story of eight-year-old Kevin when he is left alone at home on Christmas.
As you can see in the trailer, we've got a whole new Kevin to get used to - well, he's called Max in this one - and he's played by Archie Yates, who you might recognise from 2019's Jojo Rabbit - as well as Irish comedian and actress, Aisling Bea, who plays the mum who (spoilers?) leaves her son all alone at home.
E! News has confirmed that Disney+ has finally found its lead for the upcoming Home Alone reboot on the streaming platform! According to reports, Jojo Rabbit breakout star Archie Yates will be starring in the reboot of the classic film.
HOME ALONE is the story of 8-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), a mischievous kid who feels largely ignored by his large extended family. While everyone is preparing for a Christmas vacation in Paris, Kevin gets in trouble, is banished to the attic overnight, and wishes his family would just disappear. He gets his wish the next morning when they mistakenly leave him behind. At first Kevin is elated -- but pretty soon he realizes that being home alone isn't all it's cracked up to be. He misses his mom (who tries any and every means of getting home to her son) and even his brother, who bullies him. With all of the block's other families also away, Kevin has no one to turn to. Meanwhile, a pair of bumbling burglars played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern take advantage of the situation by pillaging the neighborhood. It's up to Kevin to defend his home, using every prank in his well-stocked arsenal. A bevy of violent, slapstick, wince-inducing episodes ensues as Kevin fights to foil the burglars' plans.
Home Alone 3 does not center on Kevin or any of the original cast and characters, but still takes place in Chicago and instead on Alex Pruitt, a young boy who is left home alone with chickenpox, but soon recovers. At the same time, four international criminals are sent to steal a top-secret microchip that can act as a cloaking device for a missile. They succeed in stealing it and hide it in a remote controlled car, but due to a luggage mix-up at the airport with the Pruitts' neighbor Mrs. Hess, the car lands in the hands of Alex who is given the car for shoveling the snow in her driveway. The thieves begin systematically searching every house on his street. Once they realize that he has the chip, they prepare to invade his house. He devises elaborate traps and bamboozles the four crooks with the help of his pets and some intricate tripwires, all the while monitoring them with a video camera on the race car. The film was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Remake or Sequel, eventually losing the award to Speed 2: Cruise Control.
