One of the most advanced and deadliest fighter jets in the world, the F-22 belongs to the family of twin-engine supersonic fighters which, besides the F-15 and F-16, are the only ones in the Air Force arsenal to be able to effectively operate both subsonically and supersonically. Its stealthy profile was designed to hide its presence from radar and make it difficult for ground-based enemy fighters to find and track it. With its advanced thrust-to-weight ratio and advanced avionics, the F-22 is capable of performing highly-maneuverable aerial dogfighting. The F-22A has a maximum speed of more than Mach 1.8, approximately six times the speed of sound. It is equipped with radar warning receivers and laser warning devices to alert it to inbound threats, as well as a multi-mode infrared search and track system (MIRST) capable of tracking ground targets at a distance of greater than 20 miles. To reduce its radar signature, the F-22 features a very low radar cross section. With its advanced thrust-to-weight ratio and advanced avionics, the F-22 is capable of performing highly-maneuverable aerial dogfighting. It has a mission capable of flying over a wide range of altitudes and Mach numbers. It can also carry a wide range of weapons, from the MK46 cannon on the wing roots, through the nose-mounted GAU-22 laser, to the AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. The F-22s main purpose is to provide air dominance and air supremacy with respect to its fleet as well as protect the U.S. fleet and allies. This should provide enough firepower to deter any adversary from engaging the F-22s. The F-22 is capable of performing several functions and is also used in a close-air support role. The first F-22 unit was delivered to the Air Force on 30 September 1997, and it had to undergo a 10-month long developmental process. After the F-22 was deployed to operational squadrons, it was able to perform all of the roles that the F-15 or F-16 can perform. The last F-22 rolled off the production line
